For most teenagers, it's the 16th birthday that is anxiously awaited. For Sam, it was his 17th - or more accurately, 7 days before his 17th birthday, which is when the great state of Illinois declared he had fulfilled the mandatory 9 month waiting period required between getting your learners permit and your driver's license. He had to wait a few extra days, since we were gone for Spring Break, followed by a weekend, and the official "closed day" for the DOT, Monday. Still, he did get it before turning 17 (3 days) and over a year before Jake got his (18 and 2 weeks).
We had a low-key celebration including dinner out and cake at home.
Ahnalies's friend Emmy, who considers Sam and Joe her brothers, too, wanted to be part of the celebration. Sam's friend, Ryan, dropped by just in time to score a piece of cake.
