We went to the Land Down Under...

Last year after spring break, Mark and I decided that we would let Jake choose our destination for SB '09, as it would be his last major vacation before graduating. For him, it was a quick and certain answer: AUSTRALIA, OF COURSE!!

So on March 29, we were off to Cairns, Australia via Hong Kong. We had a long enough layover there to leave the airport and see a bit of the city, giving us one more country to add to our list of places we've been. Cairns is on the Northeast coast of Australia, near the Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. We spent a week in this area, and had the chance to snorkel the reef, swim at the base of a few waterfalls, read, talk, and search the internet to find out more information about our upcoming move (which we found out about while we were there).

We flew to Sydney for 5 more days of exploring and enjoying another part of this beautiful country. We climbed the Sydney Harbor Bridge, visited the Opera House, went to a zoo, aquarium, and Navel Museum, had my hair fixed after a disastrous cut and color here in India, and enjoyed many, many delicious, meat filled meals. It was fantastic.

We had a 12 hour layover in Hong Kong, so we had a chance to go into the city.
Sam worked on a photography project, "Ant's Eye View."
This beautiful waterfall was a 10 minute walk from our house.

Jake and Joe - talk about swimming upstream!

We took a day long boat trip out to the reef and snorkeled in 3 different locations.

What a nice way to spend the afternoon.
We took a boat cruise on the Daintree river.

We suspect we know people who have partaken. The forbidden fruit??

Koalas are my favorite!

We climbed to the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

It was really cold for us!
The "men" decided not to shave - a bit of gray seems to be making its way in there.
Apparently, this is not recommended.
